MYTH: Trump is dishonest 75% of the time! (Politifact says yes. But what about Politifact's integrity?)

Recently, Politifact claimed Trump was telling whoppers. Big Lies.
In looking at their Truth meter rating, I realized that were often being literal when Trump was being figurative or in some ways, they were just flat wrong by not considering Trump's sarcasm, humor, or the context and point of his statements. ( The point was that people really DID cheer when the Towers fell, not a head count.)

When I saw a meme touting Politifact's credentials of  being Pulitzer Prize winner that I decided to look further. Here's what I found.

  • Politifact boasts it won a Pulitzer Prize in 2009.
  • Politifact is owned by the Tampa Bay Times Newspaper, which is run by CEO Paul Tash.
  • Paul Tash has been on the Pulitzer Prize board since 2006. (It's almost magical!)
  • He is a chair of the Committee to Protect Journalists and was invited to the White House State Dinner in 2012.
  • Politifact has accepted funding from The Democracy Fund, which is part of The Omidyar Group.
  •  This philanthropic Organization is funded by Pierre and Pam Omidyar.
  • Omidyar was sued by Thomas Woolston, a Veteran of the US Air Force, (One of the GOOD Guys) who won 25 Million dollars from Omidyar for infringing on Woolston's Patents.
  • Omidyar used Wollston's online auction patents to create eBay. (EBAY!!! I'M NEVER USING IT AGAIN)
  • Omidyar is a French-Born Iranian who has in the past donated to largely Democratic candidates, including Harry Reid.
So, next time you see a meme about Politifact saying Trump isn't honest,  you'll know the truth about Politifact.
